A combined initiative of a number of Parishes across the Archdiocese of Melbourne with the support of Archbishop Hart, Evangelium brings young Catholics (18-35) together to form them in faith, and develop strong friendships, helping them to deepen their relationship with Christ through Prayer, Formation and engagement with the traditions of the Catholic faith.
Founded in the Year of Faith called by Pope Emeritus Benedict, and inspired by the work of Evagnelium UK, Evangelium’s first event was The Evangelium Summer School 2013 and it now hosts four key events throughout the year including the Palm Sunday Melbourne Church Pilgrimage and the Winter Silent Retreat.
In his first Encyclical Lumen Fidei Pope Francis says:
The light of faith is unique, since it is capable of illuminating every aspect of human existence. A light this powerful cannot come from ourselves but from a more primordial source: in a word, it must come from God.
In a world full of darkness and fear, Evangelium aims to help young Catholics find the light that is Jesus, and equip them with the skills and confidence to spread this light in the world around them.
In 2015 Evangelium will host its third Summer School with a focus on Church history. At the request of participants from previous years the program will help participants delve into the story of the Church and hopefully inspire them to take up their part in the story moving forward.
